Just over a decade ago I was unhappily working in a hospital. I liked the patients I helped and a few people I worked with, but (by and large), I felt disconnected from those who surrounded me at work.
People who took their jobs really seriously; people who carried business cards with their name and position in their pockets; people who literally LIKED hanging out at the water cooler to talk.
I felt a bit ashamed that I was always thinking of ways to make enough money to never have to go back to work again. And then life happened.
In 2009, I was shocked to be facing divorce.
I had a young son and badly wanted to stay home with him. But now? There would be no way.
So at that time, during sleepless nights with lots of tossing and turning, trying to brainstorm exactly how I could stay at home, I started seeing YouTube videos telling me (in fact) I COULD stay at home.
So I started a health coaching business.
I did everything by the books (naturally, as I have a Master's degree and love researching and checking all the boxes of doing things right).
I hustled like there was no tomorrow.
I flew my entire family to San Francisco so I could get certified as a raw food coach. I built my own website on WordPress over painstaking months and months of little website details.
I hung up flyers around my community.
I started teaching classes.
I still worked at the hospital during the days.
And yet, I was never able to make more than $500 a month (nowhere NEAR what I needed to make per month).
What was going wrong?
I hired one person after another to try and help me diagnose what I was doing wrong, and no one really knew. (To be fair, these were the earlier internet-marketing days around 2012).
So after five years of struggle, I made the incredibly difficult decision to shut my business down. And anyone who has had a business knows, it's not "just a business" — it's a dream of living life differently (and on your own terms).
And so I closed it down, defeated and frustrated.
But there was a silver-lining:
Now I could get my life back!! I met someone and fell in love and became pregnant. (During my five years of business struggle I had virtually NO time to get my personal life back on track).
And with the birth of my daughter, history repeated itself. I NEEDED a way to stay at home to enjoy the precious moments with her.
And this time, sure I had a stable and loving partner, but we simply couldn't afford for me to stay home on one salary.
So this time, I decided to quit coaching and instead, take all the things I learned while building my coaching business and offer them as a service to other businesses. (Things like building websites, sales pages, writing email sequences, creating ads).
And to my shock and surprise, people paid.
I got one client, two clients and by the end of the first year, I had quit my job and also hired my brother to help me with my marketing agency.
My marketing agency went from nothing to six figures in less than a year.
And over 2.5 years, we were pulling in $55,000 a month delivering our services (by this time, I had hired BOTH my brothers and two consultants to help).
But here's the fun and also frustrating thing about business growth: we are always evolving.
Despite the fact I had completely re-engineered my life and quit my job, and grew a team and had incredible businesses paying us monthly retainers to manage their marketing, I started to wonder what it would be like to teach people exactly how to grow a digital marketing business so they too could change their lives.
(And here's an interesting caveat: I kept getting more and more established coaches seeking me out for my marketing services — some of these coaches were featured on places like Oprah, the Today Show and Good Morning America).
I was helming million-dollar marketing campaigns for coaches.
And I started to think: If I can manage to catapult these incredible coaches to million-dollar launches, why can't I do it myself?
I was nervous from the five years of failing in the coaching space but I took the coaching clients as a sign that God wanted me to evolve, yet again.
I nervously launched the program.
And it stuck immediately. In the first month, I made 5 sales and by six months, I was making $70,000 a month.
Over five years, that coaching company alone pulled in $15 million USD. (That doesn't include the profits from my very profitable marketing agency).
Not only did I make those sales, but all that hard-earned money came from each and every beautiful soul who joined my program, watched the videos and implemented my advice.
Hundreds of participants launched highly successful and profitable marketing agencies and I still connect with these participants on a regular basis. There are almost a hundred video testimonials of how powerful the program was. (And any business owner with any experience knows it is HARD to get people to take the time to leave positive reviews, even WHEN they enjoy the service.)
But not everyone loved me.
A few people started to complain, "Sure, Sarah teaches you how to grow a marketing agency, but her REAL profits come from coaching people how to do it." To which I'd always reply: YES. It's true the coaching space is more profitable in terms of scale, but it doesn't detract from the power of earning 10-20K months with a marketing agency.
For many women in my agency-training program, the 10–20K months were nothing short of life-changing and has allowed them to work from home and be with their family more.
But it's also true that a coaching business is much easier to scale. You don't need nearly as many staff to deliver, and people pay you for the intel and coaching that's in your brain, versus the deliverables you send to them (like websites, ads, email writing).
And I will stand by this forever: Growing a marketing agency is an incredible and amazing way to make 10K-20K months from home. It requires work, as does any business. BUT:
For most people, when you try to get beyond 10 or 20K months with a marketing agency, it can get a little crazy. It doesn't change how incredible the earning is.
So I started to pay attention to the people who came to me, asking for more information on how to turn their knowledge into a less intensive, and more profitable coaching business.
In the past year, I've decided to do exactly that:
I've now created a community for dedicated, heart-centered souls who also wish to share their wisdom with the world through coaching.
A business that doesn't just send clients deliverables, but challenges people to grow through the power of personalization and accountability.
I've seen the behind-the-scenes of too many coaching campaigns to count, but one thing that remains true (over and over) is that the principles of good campaigns are less about luck, and far more about strategy.
Most people don't realize that just by being YOU, you can attract people into your orbit that you can help — and get paid well to do it.
I simply cannot WAIT to help you.
Let's do this!!! The life of your dreams is waiting for you, if only you get the courage to do it.
